Iconic Wests Tigers trainer Ronnie Palmer believes he still has ‘a lot to offer’ in the rugby league world, after he was reportedly told his time at the club is over.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the 73-year old, who has served as Tigers trainer since 2018 and has been involved at club land every pre-season since 1971, has been given his marching orders ahead of 2024.

Speaking to the Tele, Palmer admitted to feeling ‘a little bit let down’ by the decision, but says he has ‘no sour grapes’.

“I feel quite a bit lost… I haven’t been in this situation since I was 21,” Palmer said.

“The Tigers told me they weren’t going to renew my contract. These things happen and you have to move on.

“I feel a little bit let down but you have to cop these things and move on. There’s no sour grapes here.”

Prior to his work with the Tigers, Palmer also worked for 24 years at the Sydney Roosters, as well as with the Gold Coast Titans, Penrith Panthers, Parramatta Eels and NSW’s State of Origin team, becoming renowned as one of the best strength and fitness coaches in the business.

He says he would be open to continuing elsewhere should the opportunity arise.

“I would still love to be involved,” he said.

“It gets a bit difficult. When you get a bit older they shuffle you along.

“The old horse is out on the long yard. I know that I’ve got a lot to offer. You just have to try and convince a club of that.”

Prior to his coaching career, Palmer played 35 matches for the Balmain Tigers between 1971 and 1975.
