New Sydney Roosters recruit Dominic Young is expected to make a full recovery after being taken to hospital in the UK with a sinus infection that spread to his brain.

Young flew back to England earlier this month to take part in the three-Test series against Tonga when he complained of headaches.

The towering winger initially thought the issue would remedy itself until he became sensitive to light and had trouble opening and closing his eyes.

Young missed England’s 22-18 win over Tonga on Sunday but has been responding well to antibiotics according to his manager Michael Cincotta.

“I spoke to Dom yesterday and he says things are heading in the right direction and his eyes are getting back to normal,” Cincotta said.

“I’m confident after speaking to Dom that he’ll make a full recovery.”

Young has been kept in hospital as a precaution and it’s expected he won’t feature in the remaining two Tests against Tonga and will likely return to Australia ahead of his first season at Bondi.

“We’ll check in on him earlier this week but it’s doubtful (he’ll play in this series),” said England coach Shaun Wane after the first Test in St Helens.

Young bagged 25 tries for Newcastle last year and will compete with Joseph Suaalii and Daniel Tupou to nail down a wing spot for Trent Robinson’s side.
