36 free agents Premier League and Championship clubs can still sign

Former Real Madrid and Chelsea star Eden Hazard.

The transfer window in England is closed until January, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that clubs in the Premier League and Championship are closed for business.

It’s been well publicised that the Saudi Pro League’s window remains open until September 7, Turkey’s doesn’t close until the 15th, while a clutch of European leagues can still sign players for a few more days.

It leaves clubs in England susceptible to losing their key players, with Liverpool star Mohamed Salah being heavily linked with a £200m transfer to Al-Ittihad.

Premier League and Championship managers can still add to their ranks however, and fill gaps in their senior squads. That’s because there are still a lot of free agents who are without a club after being released earlier this year or after they failed to get a move by deadline day.

We’ve found 36 players who we think could still do a job in one of the two top divisions, with some very notable names in here.

David De Gea is arguably the most high profile footballer without a club right now after Manchester United chose not to renew his contract. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich were linked, but a move hasn’t materialised.

The Spaniard isn’t the only former Man United player on the market, as Jesse Lingard, Axel Tuanzebe, Phil Jones and Morgan Schneiderlin are all clubless.

Ex-Chelsea star Eden Hazard has been linked with a return to Belgium this week after being let go by Real just four years after his €100 million transfer. How much longer will he remain a free agent?

Another notable name available on a freebie is Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gomez, who only won the bloody World Cup less than a year ago with Argentina, after his contract with Sevilla was terminated by mutual agreement. Could a Premier League side in need of a creative force snap up the 35-year-old on a short-term deal?
